THE PRETERITE TENSE
The preterite tense refers to events that were completed in the past.
Preterite tense adds the following endings to the verb stem:

Many Spanish verbs like ESTAR and TENER have an irregular stem plus a special set of
endings in the preterite:

Note that verbs ending in –cir & -traer have -eron (not –ieron) for the third person plural.

Stems ending in the letters c, g, and z have spelling changes in the I form of the preterite:
